Army Men

I have had some small green army men hanging above my bed for many years now.

It started as a gift I bought for a man staying in our basement while he was finishing up his college degree. He was staying in my sister's room while she was attending school in another state. When I gave him the army men, he decided to decorate my sister's room with them. She was not too happy to see her feminine room covered in army men. So as a joke, when he left a few army men decided to stay. When my sister moved out of the room and I moved in, I inherited these "guardian" army men. I told people I had army men to protect me instead of angels. My explanation was that army men have guns or swords and fluffy guardian angels have wings. It is an obvious choice to have the men be the guards.

This weekend, I moved into my first place. While I was unpacking in my closet, I looked up and there, above the doorway was an army man. My Dad had snuck him over from my old room when I move. I was glad to know I would still have the comfort of my strong, green, man watching over my room. Then when I was talking to some friends in the dining room, one of them pointed out an army man in the light. I love that my Dad left a little inside joke with me. It immediately makes my place feel more like home.
