Praises for a Professor

I met with my English professor today. I did not expect to enjoy my English class or my professor as much as I have. First, my professor dresses in all black and usually wears a ribbon around her neck like a dog might wear a collar. She picks the most depressing pieces of literature to analyze and likes a darker style of music. And yet, I truly respect her. She is well educated but does not hold her education over her students. Her degrees are not her label, her status as a life long learner is. She is very dedicated to her students as well. Not one of her students could deny her desire to help them.

Today, was the second meeting I have had with my professor. I was looking forward to it, I was not exactly sure why, but now I get it. My professors explains different ways to compose a paper but she doesn't mind referencing the literature and talking about a different topic. She loves good conversation that is challenging and often engaged me in what she was processing. She is a learner and welcomes others to join her or, is she sees you are a learner, she invites herself into that process as well.

My professor pointed out more errors in my paper today than she did in the last paper. It was not because the errors were not in the last paper. My professor said she had noticed how well I was doing with a certain aspect of my paper and wanted to challenge me further. I like that. She doesn't overwhelm me with information I cant handle. She is slowly challenging me, which is very encouraging.

I know writing a blog about an English professor may be strange, but I think my professor is worthy of a lot more than a blog. Teachers have one of the most challenging jobs. How do you get someone to love learning? How do you spend all that energy on a student and then have to do it again the next day? Here's to you Professor Jones!
